Edith
Prock began her interest in music already as a child of 8 years.
In this young age she was already taking
accordion lessons, singing in the Munich singing school and a
member of the Bavarian radio station's children's
choir. She didn't find her idol at that time in any of the
popular singers but rather in her older sister who could yodel
with the best and was already a talented accordion player.
Before going to sleep at night the two sisters practiced
yodeling until the "little sister, Edith" was
perfect!! For this will always thank her big sis.
When Edith was 16 years old she joined
an amateur band as their lead singer. As the year went on she
was able to use her other talents
of keyboard and accordion with the band. These beginning years
of the music business were certainly hard but educational ones
for Edith and gave her the foundation she needed to build on for
her music career.
In the following years Edith was
able to exercise her many talents in various capacities of the
music business. She sung lead voice and managed for 15 years one
of the most popular German background singing groups, "The
Munich Voices" She tried and proved her expertise in
singing in several commercials. Music became a full time job for
her during this time.
Edith's real breakthrough as a solo
musician for folk music came in 1989 at the Grand Prix of Fold
Music. At this competition she sang the song Horst Du die
Glocken von Stella Maria (Do you hear the bells of Stella
Maria) and won second place in the pre-selection. She went on to
finals and won 4th place as well as being acclaimed by experts
as best female singer. How could Edith help but have success
with her wonderful, crystal clear voice
and warm and vivacious personality.
In the year following Edith's Grand Prix success came yet
another song produced by Ralph Siegel called Komm a bisserl
naher zu mir (Come a bit closer to me) In the next Grand Prix
Edith sung Dankschon dass Du bei mir bist. (Thank you for being
with me) Her increasing number of fans were thankful for Edith's
work of bringing her songs to CD's this time for their home
listing. Whether on the radio, television or in live concerts
Edith had conquered the hearts of the true lover of Bavarian
Folk Music.
Through the years Edith has enjoyed the opportunity,
participating in concerts and festivals in many countries
including the United States and Japan, to be a Bavarian
Ambassador spreading this warm, fun-loving, and very special
culture. On one trip to the Land of the Rising Sun she received
this wonderful compliment from one Japanese Ambassador. What you
have achieved here in Japan with your songs and with your
Bavarian charm, no politician has been able to accomplish so
far. For Edith this was and is the essence of what she desires
to bring to the world with her music.
